2006 greeted participants with a thirty degree temperature drop and fairly high skies. Despite the tough conditions, anglers boated 25 fish for points; keys to avoiding the cold-front-blues included river-fishing and targeting fish that were relating to open-water baitfish. Rod Moe pulled 5 tournament legal fish out of the Apple River for total domination of the tournament and the Sportsman's Warehouse first place prize: LMS334 color-mapping gps/locator and a "Big Kahuna" net. Gary Malecsa landed 3 fish out of Deer for the Dunwright Tackle second place prize. Mike Jasinski pulled two solid fish from Deer for the Zacho Sport Center third place prize. The top three open division winners also walked away with a new pair of top-quality polarized shades from Smith Optics . The Tournament Big Fish went to Gary Malecsa thanks to his 45-1/2" Deer Lake whopper. Gary's lunker netted him a custom rod built to his specs by Professional Edge Custom Rod. All top finishers recieved Fudally Twists , a Mepps assortment, Fenwik Rods and Abu-Garcia Reels and 6th through 10th place recieved Fudally Twists and Thorne Brothers gift certificates. No Juniors caught fish for points so the Pure Fishing Juniors Division prize package was divided among all Junior Division participants by a name-draw and Tanner Clay, in his last year participating as a Junior won a great looking pair of Smith sunglasses. Brian Klobe won the drawing for the week of lodging at Red Wing Lodge on Lake Of The Woods. Thanks again to everyone who helped make the tournament a great success again this year!
